Photographer David LaChapelle can continue to develop his million-dollar copyright claim against pop star Rihanna after a New York judge green-lit the motion, the New York Post reported Friday.
Manhattan federal Judge Shira Scheindlin said the surrealist fashion photographer “successfully alleges” that the songstress, her record label and video director may have copied his provocative images for Rihanna’s “S&M” video.

The Barbados Tourism Authority (BTA) should say if it has a “confidentiality agreement” which shields details of Rihanna’s August 5 Loud concert and three-year promotional contract.
The call was made by Dale Marshall, Deputy Leader of the Opposition, on Sunday at a meeting of the Barbados Labour Party’s St George South branch at the Drax Hall Resource Centre.
Marshall said it was “wonderful” when a country like Barbados could proclaim its stars but his query was not about Rihanna as a performer.
He said it was in the interest of transparency, accountability and legality and in keeping with the public’s right to know. (TS)

THE RIHANNA LOUD concert scheduled for Barbados on August 5 is coming at the wrong time, says veteran bandleader Mackie Holder.
The show should have been slated for September or October “when Barbados is dead”, Holder said.
His concern is that Rihanna Loud is competing with the Crop Over Festival season.
He said that the show was forcing festival patrons to refrain from spending money during the festival “because they got to be ready to go see Rihanna”.
“There is only so much money to go round and there are people who say they are saving their money to go to Rihanna.”

At near 3:30 am on Sunday morning a weary audience inside Kingston’s National Indoor Sports Centre applauded the newly-crowned beauty queen, Shakira Martin as she made her first walk as Miss Jamaica Universe 2011.
For Martin, as well as the small audience scattered across the sprawling sea of hundreds of white plastic chairs inside the venue, this marked the end of an ordeal, which for some audience members lasted as long as seven hours.

He screams out to the croud “my mind is free”, but the language he releases from that mind is secured and bound like a well melded alloy, and he hands his audience nothing less than poetry – solid and weighty. He calls himself Analogy.
And while those dear to him know him as Junior, when he takes the stage it is quickly apparent that there was no one that came before him to bestow such a secondary title.
Analogy stepped on the scene only four years ago, but his enduring passion for the craft of spoken word and his unyielding will to seek out and conquer, not only the scenes near to him in Miami – where he now lives – but in his home country Anguilla and his adopted home in The Bahamas, makes him a force to be reckoned with.
Only one week ago Analogy made his first appearance in The Bahamas at Mic Check 1-242, grasping an encore call and selling out of his second independently produced album of spoken word poetry.
“I have to claim my audience now and set the standard,” Analogy told Caribhype on his trip to The Bahamas.
His style is unique and he has defined his presence on stage. And those who have become his fans through the years have come to expect it from his performances.
While a certain familiar and often ubiquitous cadence exists in some Miami spoken word and slam poetry joints, Analogy has kept his beat fresh and unique.
“I will never conform,” he said.
A line from one of his poems contends: “I’d rather write one blazin piece and spit it for 52 weeks than go against the grain.”
With several hundred hours of stage time under his belt, courtesy of Miami’s Bohemia Room, Literary Cafe and other venues, and two independent CDs produced, Analogy is taking the next step and has sought and found a venue of his own to showcase new talent along with the Miami regulars who rose to the ranks with him.
His poetry has evolved since those early days of choking the mic and laying his head low, coy of the crowd. Now, he flails as he recites and commands his audience with audible arrogance swathed in sanguine composition.
“The reason I grip my pen so tight is because poetry is my salvation,” one of his pieces declares.
“I’m securing these word like ammo and lifting their meanings from the pages and bringing them to stages in an unyieleding attempt to exonerate and make this art change a life by doing the right thing like Spike Lee / I spit in this industry because we gat a lot of shit to fix…”

A Chutney Soca Monarch is unique royalty in the soca oligarchy, one that is difficult to ascend to, but as fleeting as modern day marriage.
For the vibrant 2010 Monarch, Ravi B, his accession was inevitable, if not a matter of succession.
He was second runner up to last year’s Monarch. His fast and vibrant stage presence coupled with the message of the song that won him the crown, “Ah Drinka”, secured his seat in the court of the Chutney Soca elite.
And he and his band, Karma, which took on a new member almost eight months ago, are poised to create a legacy in the wider soca community.
However, the 27-year-old – the youngest ever Soca Monarch – told Caribhype following his performance at the Ultimate All Inclusive Miami Day Fete at Gulfstream Park, that there is only one “Ah Drinka”, suggesting he may be conceding the throne after only one sitting.
While he did admit that there are some new things in the pipeline in time for Trinidad Carnival 2011, he said he and the band are focused on their touring which increased significantly this year.
Caribhype thinks you haven’t seen the last of Ravi B Royalty!
